Ocean of Wisdom is a volunteer project. Everything on it is free. There are no ads and nothing for sale.
We collect as little information about you as we can, and we treat what little we hold with care. This page explains, in plain words, what we collect and why.
When you create an account, we ask for your email address, and you can add your name. We use them to log you in, to address you by name, and to send you account emails — for example, to confirm your address or to help you recover a forgotten password. We do not send newsletters or marketing.
The site remembers choices you make, such as the language you prefer to read in, so it can greet you the same way next time.
If you choose to log in with Google, Google tells us your name and email address so we can create or find your account. We never see your Google password. If you would rather not use Google, you can always create an account with just an email address and a password.
When you log in, the site gives your browser one small cookie. It is what keeps you logged in as you move from page to page. It is not used to track you, and we use no advertising or analytics cookies at all.
Like most websites, the server keeps a simple record of logins — when your account last logged in, and from which internet address. This helps us notice problems and keep accounts safe.
Account emails are delivered by Mailgun, a company that sends email on behalf of websites. To deliver a message to you, Mailgun necessarily handles your email address.
We also generate basic usage statistics — things like page views, page load times, and general events such as logins. They tell us how the site is doing as a whole and help us improve it.
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and everything tied to it. Write to us at the address below and we will take care of it.

If the way we handle information changes, we will update this page and its date at the top. Big changes will be announced clearly, not slipped in quietly.
